Five of Swords
A one card reading
Five of Swords: I never like drawing this card but its message has a meaning I shall take into account as I go through this day.
This card shows a king kneeling over a woman who has been seriously or fatally hurt in a battle against him. Others there are clearly defeated as they have given up their swords which lay on the ground.
The energy of this card speaks of a victory won where both sides are injured simply because of the tragedy. You win, but the five of swords asks the question, "was it really worth it?" And yet it was a battle that seemed necessary at the time.
But sometimes you have to fight to break out of a bad situation or to defend yourself. You can't expect to sit around on your duff and have freedom to be handed to you on a silver platter.
Domination of one person over another can ruin any union. Arguments have no real winner. Wars are never won. Still battles are fought and we compete with one another.
What is this power struggle all about? Is it the urge to be free? To be right? To defend you position?
Most marriage battles are not about the issues but about the power struggles. It is about who is right, who is the boss and it can become a struggle just to be in charge of your own life.
I believe we fight for our personal freedom and individuality and sometimes it becomes a fight for a place in the pecking order of society and relationships. We want to be heard, and we want respect.
Soon it becomes all about the struggle and less about the love.
You have to sometimes ask yourself if it is really worth putting the love aside to win a battle. It is worth it? If it is, then you must stand your ground, if not, you may want to think about it.
Today I will put love first.
